Woman admits using $100,000 of criminal cash

A Pembroke woman has admitted using nearly $100,000 of ill-gotten gains.

Laurell Steede, 39, pleaded guilty in the Supreme Court yesterday to two counts of using the proceeds of criminal conduct, specifically cash.

In total, she allegedly used $97,374.82 of money earned illegally between June 21, 2007 and May 21, 2009. She made the admission shortly before jury selection was scheduled to begin, but otherwise remained quiet during proceedings.

Puisne Judge Charles-Etta Simmons released Steede on bail and ordered that a social inquiry report be carried out before a sentencing date is set.
