Woman injured by bottle at Non-Mariners

A 24-year-old woman was taken to hospital after being hit in the head with a bottle during the Non-Mariners Race celebrations.

Police said that at 5.30pm yesterday, the victim was approached by a 30-year-old female who was known to her in Mangrove Bay.

The pair got into a verbal altercation which led to the 30-year-old throwing a bottle that hit the victim on the head. The victim was taken to the shore and then rushed to the King Edward VII Memorial Hospital where she was treated for a laceration to the head.

Anyone who may have witnessed the incident is urged to contact Police on 295-0011.

Meanwhile 12 people were arrested over the holiday period on suspicion of driving whilst impaired.

A Police spokesman said: “The Cup Match Holiday Period was a very busy period with a variety of calls for service; however there were no major incidents of note.

“This is particularly encouraging as there were 15 major events at various venues that saw crowds of thousands over land and water.

“We would like to thank our community partners, as well as every member of the public who acted in a responsible manner.”
