Gina Spence Productions co-hosted the annual Pre-Christmas Party at the Heritage Worship Centre on Friday.

The Bermuda Economic Development Corporation had originally planned to throw their late night shopping event in EF Gordon Square, but concerns over rain forced a switch to an alternate venue at short notice.

“I’m really grateful and definitely would like to thank the Heritage Worship Centre for providing the rain venue,” Dr Spence told The Royal Gazette.

“That allowed us to proceed with the event and provide support within the community.”

The family focused event highlights Dr Spence’s Christmas Community Outreach campaign, which has been running for 25 years. The aim is to continue raising awareness within the community on sponsoring children and seniors.

This year’s programme provided young people with healthy food items, while Age Concern partnered with Phoenix Stores in contributing gift cards to assist seniors with purchasing medications.

“We got a great crowd,” Ms Spence said. “Especially the young people. They were dancing, choosing music, taking the mic. It became completely interractive.”

Ms Spence said revellers experienced “a real whirlwind” of pop and dance songs, as Assisted Steps Dance Ministry led the crowd in popular line-dancing routines such as the macarena and the Electric Slide.

“That really made the night,” she said. “Those children and families were very happy.”

She said dance participants received a raffle ticket with prizes that included turkey or ham from MarketPlace and Go Media’s new mobile service, “TV on the go”.

“It’s a partnership,” she said of the event, which drew more than 30 volunteers. “They’re a great asset. It was like a little army.”
