Butterfield shares gain 1.1%

Butterfield's rise drove The Royal Gazette/BSX Index higher today

Butterfield Bank was the only stock to climb in Bermuda Stock Exchange trading today.

The bank closed on $36 after gaining 40 cents, or 1.1 per cent, as 5,399 of its shares changed hands. Butterfield’s New York Stock Exchange-listed shares gained 23 cents, or 0.6 per cent, to close on $36.64.

Ascendant Group, parent company of power utility Belco, also saw trading activity, and closed unchanged on $9.25 as 5,400 shares traded.

The Royal Gazette/BSX Index gained 17.99 points, or 0.85 per cent, to close the week on 2,134.59. Trading volume was 10,799 shares and turnover topped $244,000.

The BSX Insurance Index also gained, adding 7.72 points, or 0.4 per cent, to close on 1,847.55.
