Butterfield shares gain 3.6%

The Royal Gazette/BSX Index surged past the 2,200 mark today

Shares of Butterfield Bank surged 3.6 per cent in Bermuda Stock Exchange trading today.

The bank, which was the only stock to trade on the BSX, gained $1.30 to close on $37.80 on the trading of 3,237 shares.

Butterfield’s New York Stock Exchange-listed shares closed down 3 cents at $38.01.

The bank this week declared third-quarter profits of more than $41 million and an agreement to acquire Global Trust Solutions from Deutsche Bank — a deal that will give the bank a presence in Singapore.

The Royal Gazette/BSX Index climbed 58.47 points, or 2.7 per cent, to close the week at 2,216.82.
