Butterfield Bank shares rose 75 cents, or 1.9 per cent, to $39.25 after 5,381 traded on The Royal Gazette/BSX Index.

There was also trading in 130 shares of Somers Limited, but with no change to the closing price of $14.25.

On the New York Stock Exchanges, shares of Butterfield Bank were up $1.04, or 2.65 per cent, at $40.27.

The Royal Gazette/BSX Index was 33.73 points higher, or 1.5 per cent, at 2,280.79.

The BSX Insurance Index was up 30.51 points, or 1.64 per cent, at 1,895.97.
