A day after Butterfield Bank’s shares rocketed more than 11 per cent on the New York Stock Exchange, there was a similar jump on The Royal Gazette/BSX Index. The bank’s shares improved by $4.55, or 11.6 per cent, to $43.80 after 15,594 changed hands.

Butterfield Bank shares closed 51 cents, or 1.14 per cent, lower at $44.38 on the New York Stock Exchange.

On the local exchange there was also trading of 61 shares of HSBC Holdings, but with no impact on the closing price of $10.80.

The Royal Gazette/BSX Index was up 204.64 points, or 8.97 per cent, at 2,485.43.

The BSX Insurance Index was 7.55 points, or 0.4 per cent, higher at 1,902.3.
