One shares add 79 cents

The Royal Gazette/BSX Index climbed yesterday to cap a positive week

One Communications Ltd’s shares added more than a third to their value in Bermuda Stock Exchange trading yesterday.

The telecommunications group gained 79 cents, or 37.6 per cent, to bounce off its 52-week low and close on $2.89, as 2,000 of its shares traded.

Butterfield Bank also made gains, climbing 25 cents, or 0.6 per cent, to close on $45.25, as 1,375 shares changed hands. The bank’s US-listed shares fell 43 cents, or 0.9 per cent, on the New York Stock Exchange, to close on $45.34.

The Royal Gazette/BSX Index gained 22.09 points, or 0.87 per cent, to close on 2,549.

Trading volume was 3,375 shares, while turnover was $67,998.75.

The day’s trading capped a strong week for the index, which climbed 47.09 points, or 1.84 per cent, over the five days, driven by gains for Butterfield, Somers and One.

The BSX Insurance Index fell 7.56 points, or 0.4 per cent, to close on 1,908.19.
