Butterfield edges higher on BSX

The Royal Gazette/BSX Index climbed 0.38 per cent

Shares of Butterfield Bank rose in Bermuda Stock Exchange trading.

The bank gained 25 cents, or 0.5 per cent, to close on $52.25 as 1,119 shares changed hands. In New York, the bank’s US-listed shares fell 55 cents, or 1.04 per cent, to close on $52.20.

Ascendant Group Ltd remained on $17 as 761 shares traded, while One Communications stayed on $3, on the trading of 61 shares.

The Royal Gazette/BSX Index gained 11.24 points, or 0.38 per cent, to close on 2,935.06. Trading volume was 1,886 shares and turnover totalled $70,652.75.

The BSX Insurance Index plunged 48.14 points, or 3 per cent, to close on 1,558.65, as nervousness about the impact of Hurricane Michael impacted the markets amid a broad-based stock rout.

In a regulatory filing with the BSX, Somers Ltd, the financial-services investment holding company that owns Bermuda Commercial Bank, said it bought back 1,500 of its own common shares at an average cost of $16.25 per share during September. These shares have been cancelled.
