Members of a newly-elected executive committee at the Association of Bermuda Compliance Officers are aiming to rejuvenate the organisation.

All compliance officers are eligible to join Abco, which will spark its membership drive with a free networking event tomorrow at the Royal Bermuda Yacht Club, starting at 5.30pm.

Cheryl-Ann Mapp is the new president of Abco, succeeding Chris Brown.

Other executives are Jacintha Baptiste, vice-president; Carmen Lindo, secretary; Susanne Fox, treasurer; and Lanan Bascome, assistant treasurer. General members of the executive committee are Cheryl Watts, Michelle Cardwell, William Davidson, Tanya Esdaille and Junior Watts.

In a statement, Abco said: “Abco was formed 20 years ago and its purpose is to raise the profile of the compliance function within regulated sectors of business in Bermuda.

“Abco seeks to provide an open forum for the sharing of information and common interests among compliance officers, and to provide opportunities to support the ongoing educational needs of the compliance professional.

“It also serves as the representative body for the industry, liaising with local regulatory agencies like the Bermuda Monetary Authority and other supervisors regarding proposed legislative initiatives such as those impacting AML/ATF regulated institutions within both financial institutions and non-financial services businesses.”

Abco is also a founding member of the Caribbean Regional Compliance Association and will be a sponsor at its annual conference in St Lucia in November 2019.
