A forum will discuss the opioid crisis and provide updates on the growing liabilities involving cannabis and the herbicide product Roundup.

These are among the topics on the agenda for the afternoon event hosted by Kennedys Bermuda next month.

The law firm will hold the “Hot Topics” session on October 10 to discuss legal trends and business issues in the Bermuda insurance industry.

One of the discussions will look at social accountability in the boardroom, and whether it is good for business or just creating new headaches for D&O and professional lines carriers. That discussion will feature speakers Eric Scheiner and Maurice Pesso. They will discuss how corporate social accountability is impacting D&O, EPL and wage and hour claim trends with respect to a variety of issues including climate change, event-driven litigation, social media/privacy concerns, sexual harassment and wage and hours laws.

The opioid crisis will be discussed by Christopher Carroll and Dick Geddes, who will provide the latest overview on looming multi-district litigation and thoughts on where and when it will wind up.

There will be discussion update on cannabis and Roundup. Meg Catalano and Heather Simpson will talk about the growing liabilities involving cannabis and the Roundup toxic tort cases.

In addition, there will be a look at regulatory developments designed to accommodate innovative intermediaries and new e-markets, and the impact of artificial intelligence and blockchain technologies and claims handling. This discussion will be led by Nick Miles and Karin Derrick.

Trends in London arbitration will be the focus of a session by Nick Williams.

The Hot Topics session will be held at the Tradewinds Auditorium in the Bermuda Underwater Exploration Institute.
