Smith’s man fined for drinking and driving

A Smith’s man was banned from driving all vehicles after admitting driving while over the legal blood-alcohol limit.

Padraic O’Shaughnessy, 17, apologised to the court and his family for his actions, calling the incident a “wake-up call”.

The court heard that on the evening of July 4, police responded to a report of a single vehicle collision on South Road in Warwick, near the junction with Camp Road.

When officers arrived on the scene, an EMT identified the rider of the auxiliary cycle involved in the crash, saying he had refused medical treatment.

The officers spoke to O’Shaughnessy, who admitted having “four or five” rum swizzles earlier in the day.

He later provided police with breath samples, which showed a lower reading of 169mg of alcohol in 100ml of blood — about double the legal limit of 80mg.

Magistrate Khamisi Tokunbo fined O’Shaughnessy $1,200, banning him from driving all vehicles for 18 months.
