A man who admitted causing more than $1,700 of damage to a car parked in Hamilton was today sent to the Mental Health Treatment Court.

Magistrates’ Court heard that Tio Smith, 41, from Warwick, was seen using a helmet to scratch the side of a BMW parked on Court Street.

Magistrate Khamisi Tokunbo was told the damage stretched the entire length of the car and that repairs were estimated at $1,775.

Smith pleaded guilty to causing wilful damage to the car last Thursday.

Mr Tokunbo released Smith on $2,000 bail pending his appearance in the mental health court.
