Man fined for assault on woman

A 44-year-old Paget man has been fined after pleading guilty to assaulting a woman.

Magistrates’ Court heard that Onslow Lightbourne was arrested after police responded to a report of a fight at Washington Mall in July.

The court heard that Lightbourne had been ejected by security from Spring Garden Restaurant & Bar after using his finger to forcefully push the complainant’s head backwards.

Lightbourne returned to the club and an argument began between him and the complainant. He was then ejected again.

A short time later, Lightbourne punched the victim twice on the left side of her face.

Police said Lightbourne’s eyes were red and glazed and his breath smelled of liquor at the time of his arrest.

Lightbourne explained of his actions in court: “Everyone was intoxicated.”

He added that he no longer consumed alcohol.

“I’m sorry that it happened. We’re still together.”

Magistrate Khamisi Tokunbo fined Lightbourne $500.
