Warwick woman admits stealing from hotel

A former receptionist at Cambridge Beaches Resort & Spa yesterday admitted stealing more than $560 from the hotel.

Magistrates’ Court heard that Lanell Burrows, 44, was caught after the hotel introduced a new card processing system in January.

This highlighted discrepancies in debit and credit refunds processed at the end of 2016.

Burrows, of Warwick, was the only receptionist working at the time when the transaction involving the $568.93 was made.

She yesterday pleaded guilty to creating an unauthorised return on her debit card and stealing the money in Sandys on December 12 last year.

Prosecutor Nicole Smith said Burrows was arrested at Hamilton Police Station and later admitted the offences during an interview.

Magistrate Khamisi Tokunbo ordered a social inquiry report and set a sentencing date for December 7.

Burrows was released on $2,000 bail.
