A 21-year-old motorcyclist who led police officers on a 5am chase told them he was “just going home” when he was caught.

Lezano Hewey Darrell pleaded guilty to dangerous driving and speeding at Magistrates’ Court yesterday, where he received an 18-month driving ban and a $1,200 fine.

Prosecutor Maria Sofianos said Darrell, whose address was not given, was spotted on his motorcycle by officers in a marked police car on Frog Lane in Devonshire at about 5am on October 28.

They followed and saw him cut corners, ignore a stop sign and drive dangerously before he was stopped on Southcourt Avenue in Paget, when he told them: “I was just going home.”

Darrell also admitted an earlier offence of speeding at 58km/h.

Magistrate Khamisi Tokunbo gave him until December 29 to pay his fine, $200 of which was for speeding and $1,000 of which was for dangerous driving, or face 100 days in prison.
