A woman was jailed for 30 days after attacking someone who refused to give her money.

Trimiea Roland, 29, of no fixed abode, admitted violently resisting arrest, along with assaulting both police and a member of the public.

Magistrates’ Court heard that at around 6.40am yesterday Roland approached Sylvia Ferreira, who was sitting on a bench at the Hamilton Bus Terminal.

Roland asked her for money and, when she refused, Roland gripped her by her shirt and pulled her along the sidewalk into a pole.

Police arrived soon after, and Roland ran.

She was eventually stopped on Church Street, where she denied attacking Ms Ferreira, claiming she had fallen down.

As Roland was being led to a waiting police car she broke free, ran towards Ms Ferreira and kicked her.

She then said: “Now I assaulted you.”

Roland then kicked an officer attempting to restrain her.

After pleading guilty, Roland said she had no recollection of what happened.

“I was intoxicated. I don’t remember anything,” she said.

“I didn’t even realise where I was until I was in the cell.”

Magistrate Khamisi Tokunbo sentenced Roland to 30 days behind bars for each charge of assault and ten days for resisting arrest, ordering that all of the sentences run concurrently.
