A Devonshire teenager has admitted robbing a man at the Fairmont Southampton hotel in the early hours of New Year’s Day.

Kyari Flood, 18, pleaded guilty at Magistrates’ Court to the offence. The court heard that the victim, who was not named in court, had gone to the hotel to visit friends.

He went to the parking lot around 3am with the intention of riding his motorcycle home, but the battery was dead. He saw two men who appeared to be urinating in the car park and, when they were finished, he asked if they had any jumper cables.

The men said that if he did not get out of the car park, they would rob him.

The two robbers were joined by a third man, who removed the keys from the victim’s bike before he approached him.

The victim said he refused to hand over his money and was punched, knocked to the ground and kicked. He later discovered that several items, including a speaker, his iPhone and a gold watch were gone.

He reported the incident to police, who arrested Flood and another man at the hotel later that morning.

Police searched Flood and found the victim’s Bulova watch.

Flood at first told police he had bought the watch for $50, but admitted the offence in court.

Magistrate Khamisi Tokunbo remanded Flood in custody until March 6.

Zachary Fox, 19, and Jason Symonds, 18, both from Pembroke, have also been charged in connection with the robbery.
