A man who lost teeth and suffered permanent damage to his face after he crashed while over the drink-driving limit was yesterday banned from the roads for 18 months and fined $1,200.

Magistrates’ Court heard that Wayne Broadley-Samuels, 24, lost control of his motorcycle near a roundabout on Kindley Field Road in St George’s.

Police who attended the scene found Broadley-Samuels standing next to the airport fence with injuries to his mouth.

He was taken to the King Edward VII Memorial Hospital, where staff detected alcohol on his breath.

A later breath test showed Broadley-Samuels, from St George’s, had 174 milligrams of alcohol in 100 millilitres of blood, more than twice the legal limit of 80mg/100ml.

Broadley-Samuels, who admitted the offence, told magistrate Khamisi Tokunbo he had made a mistake and asked to keep his licence as he feared the loss of his job.

He said: “I lost my teeth. I got permanent face damage from this. I have to wake up and look at my face every day.”

But Mr Tokunbo told Broadley-Samuels he has no discretion for drink-driving offences and a disqualification is mandatory.

He added: “Any loss of equipment or hard times that you endure because of this conviction is a matter you brought on yourself.”
