Senior admits growing marijuana in cups

A 68-year-old man has admitted growing marijuana.

James Dallas, of no fixed abode, pleaded guilty to the cultivation of cannabis.

The court heard that Dallas was arrested after police were called to investigate trespassing at the old prison headquarters on Happy Valley Road, Pembroke.

Officers discovered 25 styrofoam cups on a window ledge during their search.

Dallas told officers: “They are my tomato plants.”

The cups were later found to contain 30 cannabis plants.

Senior magistrate Juan Wolffe ordered court reports on Dallas because he wanted “to know more about him”.

The case was adjourned until July 27.
