Man hit with 18-month driving ban

A 33-year-old man was ordered off the roads for 18 months and fined last week after he admitted drink-driving.

Magistrates’ Court heard that Christino Smith failed to stop after his car hit a parked vehicle on Coney Island Road after he left Bailey’s Bay Cricket Club in Hamilton Parish.

The crash was spotted by police, who chased the car on foot because of heavy traffic in the area at the time. Officers said Smith appeared to have been drinking and they spotted an open bottle of an alcoholic drink in the centre console of the car.

A later breath test showed Smith, from Paget, had 139 milligrams of alcohol in 100 millilitres of blood. The legal limit is 80/100.

The incident happened on September 1.

Magistrate Khamisi Tokunbo also fined Smith $1,200 for the offence.
