A man accused of a sex assault on a woman has been acquitted in the Supreme Court.

The 20-year-old, who cannot be identified for legal reasons, walked free from court after the jury was ordered by acting puisne judge Craig Attridge to deliver a formal verdict of not guilty on Wednesday.

The trial was to begin on Wednesday with the alleged victim expected to take the stand.

The decision to end the trial came before any evidence was heard. The prosecutor refused to comment or provide details.
