A man caught drink-driving on two successive nights was referred to the pilot DUI court yesterday.

Quincy Simmons was clocked at 84km/h on Crow Lane near Hamilton and pulled over by police, Magistrates’ Court heard.

He told officers: “I’m trying to get home, I have a 10pm curfew.”

Simmons, 26, admitted he did not have a driving licence after officers asked to see it.

He failed a roadside breath test, but refused to take a later court-admissible breath test at Hamilton Police Station.

Simmons told officers: “Take me straight to my cell because I’m not taking another test.”

The incident happened on March 22.

Magistrate Maxanne Anderson heard that Simmons, from Pembroke, was stopped the next day during a roadside breath test checkpoint in Southampton and told police he had had one drink.

Simmons was arrested on suspicion of drink-driving, but refused a breath test at Hamilton Police Station.

He also told police that he still did not have a driving licence.

Ms Anderson referred Simmons to DUI Court and ordered a Bermuda assessment and referral centre report.

She adjourned the case until May 23 at DUI court and released Simmons on $2,000 bail.

Simmons was also fined $940 and banned from the roads for three months.
