An 81-year-old man was banned from driving for two years and fined yesterday for a crash that injured two people.Conrad Henry, of Southampton, was found guilty in Supreme Court of causing grievous bodily harm to Robin Lewis by driving without due care and attention on Middle Road in December 2017. Henry was also found guilty of causing grievous bodily harm to Kevin Lambert by driving without due care and attention on the same day. Details of the crash were not read out in court. Acting Puisne Judge Craig Attridge read out part of his written judgment. He said that the court found that Henry did not stop at a stop line “and did not exercise sufficient care to ensure that the way was clear prior to emerging into the path of Mr Lewis’s motorcycle”.Mr Justice Attridge added: “Further, the court is satisfied beyond a reasonable doubt, so that it feels sure, that in so doing, Mr Henry’s driving fell below the standard expected of a competent and careful driver.” Henry was fined $1,000 and disqualified from driving for two years, for each offence, but Mr Justice Attridge ordered the driving bans to run concurrently.•It is The Royal Gazette’s policy not to allow comments on stories regarding criminal court cases.
