Boater formally denies causing man’s death

A 33-year-old man accused of causing a boat crash that killed 24-year-old Adrian Hassell on New Year’s Day denied two charges yesterday.Mikado Burchall pleaded not guilty in Supreme Court yesterday to manslaughter and piloting a marine vessel while impaired by alcohol. Mr Burchall is expected to return to court on January 22.The case was one of several to appear before Puisne Judge Charles-Etta Simmons at the December arraignments session.Nancy Vieira, a 46-year-old lawyer from Pembroke, denied a charge that she obtained a $50,000 money transfer from Kirsten Badenduck through deception.Ms Vieira also denied two counts of theft related to unauthorised ATM withdrawals from Ms Badenduck’s account that totalled $36,216. The case was also adjourned until January 22.Zadun Robinson, 20, from Sandys, denied possession of cannabis and THC, the active ingredient in cannabis, with intent to supply on August 28, last year. He also denied a charge of conspiracy with others to import the drugs into Bermuda.The court earlier heard that Mr Robinson was alleged to have 7.136 kilograms of cannabis and 91.6 grams of THC.The drugs were said in court to have a total street value of $473,450.Meshach Chriton, 21, from Warwick, pleaded not guilty to wounding Kevin Davis with intent to cause grievous bodily harm in an incident on February 26.The case is expected to return to the Supreme Court later this month.
