Drink-driver told police: I don’t care

A woman motorcyclist involved in a traffic collision in Devonshire was twice the legal alcohol limit, Magistrates’ Court heard yesterday.Courtney Kromer, 25, pleaded guilty to a charge of drink driving.The court heard that police officers attended a collision between a motorcycle and a car near Devonshire Recreational Club on October 19.Both vehicles suffered minor damage.The defendant, who suffered injuries to her hand, was arrested on suspicion of drink driving.Kromer told police officers: “I don’t care.”She was taken to Hamilton Police Station and a breath test showed that Kromer had 160 milligrams of alcohol in 100 millilitres of blood. The legal limit is 80mg/100ml.Kromer, from Pembroke, pleaded not guilty to driving while impaired and an alternative charge of driving while over the limit on October 28.But she admitted driving while over the limit yesterday and the prosecution dropped the other charge.Magistrate Tyrone Chin fined Kromer $1,500 and banned her from the roads for 18 months.• It is The Royal Gazette’s policy not to allow comments on stories regarding court cases.
