Biker lost helmet as he fled police

A motorcyclist who lost his helmet during a police chase admitted drink driving today.Elisha Thomas, 20, pleaded guilty to the charge in Magistrates’ Court.The court heard that police followed Thomas’s bike after he ignored a stop sign on North Shore Road in Hamilton Parish.He was seen to overtake cars and forced other road users to swerve to avoid a collision.Police signalled Thomas to stop but he ignored them.Thomas only pulled over when his helmet flew off his head as he rode around Shelly Bay.He told officers that he had been drinking but was not drunk.Thomas was arrested and taken to the Hamilton Police Station and refused to take a breath test.The incident took place on December 6.Senior magistrate Juan Wolffe fined Thomas, from Hamilton Parish, $1,000 and ordered him to pay by January 10.He also banned Thomas from the road for 18 months.• It is The Royal Gazette’s policy not to allow comments on stories regarding court cases.
