A man was given until the end of the day today to pay $2,800 in unpaid fines from as far back as 2017.Magistrate Charles Attridge also warned John Edwards, 51, that he could face a total of 180 days in prison if the fines were not paid.Magistrates’ Court heard that Edwards, from Hamilton Parish, failed to pay a $1,500 penalty after he pleaded guilty to drink driving in 2017.The court heard he owed a further $1,300 from 2018, when he was caught speeding and driving while disqualified on Christmas Day that year.Mr Attridge heard that Edwards also owed a total of $2,850 after he pleaded guilty to a more recent disqualified driving offence and riding an unlicensed and uninsured motorcycle.Edwards told the court that he did not know that some of the fines were so old.He added that he had started to work as a delivery driver for the takeout service Sargasso Sea and could only offer $200.But Mr Attridge told Edwards he should have paid his fines on time.Mr Attridge ordered Edwards to pay the fines from 2017 and 2018 or go to jail.He gave him until August 7 to pay the rest of the unpaid penalties and warned he faced up to 210 in prison if he failed to comply.• It is The Royal Gazette’s policy not to allow comments on stories regarding court cases.
