A man was fined $2,000 in Magistrates’ Court after a traffic stop turned violent.Marcus Fox, 28, admitted he resisted arrest, made false statements and obstructed justice.The court heard on Wednesday that Fox was stopped by police at the junction of Cedar Avenue and Marsh Folly Road in Pembroke.He identified himself as Troy Fox when questioned and officers found that Troy Fox had warrants for his arrest.Fox started his motorcycle after he was warned of the warrants, but police turned off the vehicle before he could ride off.But he pushed the motorcycle into one of the officers and ran along Cedar Avenue into Bernards Park.Javon Rogers, for the prosecution, said that Fox threw his helmet at one of the police officers as they chased him through the North Village Football Field.He added that police ordered him to stop and used tasers during the chase, but to no effect.The court heard the officers arrested Fox after a struggle in front of the North Village Community Club and handcuffed him.He was taken to Hamilton Police Station, where police discovered his real name was Marcus Fox.The incident took place on May 23.Marc Daniels, for the defence, said Fox, of Pembroke, made “really silly decisions” but had acted out of panic.Senior magistrate Juan Wolffe ordered Fox to pay $500 every month from June 30 until the fine was cleared.• It is The Royal Gazette’s policy not to allow comments on stories regarding court cases.
