A 31-year-old was yesterday dealt a $750 fine in Magistrates’ Court after he admitted cursing at an officer on Harbour Road.Alexander Raynor pleaded guilty to a single count of using offensive words towards an officer in a public place in the Sunday incident.Cindy Clarke, Deputy Director of Public Prosecutions, said police had been sent to the Spithead Dock in Warwick for an unrelated matter at around 9pm.She said as the officers were preparing to leave, one of them noticed Raynor approaching them and staring specifically at him.The officer, who didn’t recognise Raynor, said: “What’s going on?”Raynor then confronted him, asking him what he meant before adding: “Get the f**k out of here, white boy.”Ms Clarke said the officer let Raynor past him, but Raynor then turned around, approached the officer again and repeated the comment.In court, Raynor apologised for the actions and said he was in an “irritated state of mind”. He said his comments came after the officer asked him where he was going.Kenville Savoury, the duty counsel, asked the court to be lenient in the circumstances as the offence was minor.He added: “He was walking through and he felt that the officer was approaching and asking him where he was going when he hadn’t done anything.”Magistrate Maxanne Anderson said there was “no excuse” for Raynor’s actions and fined him $750.• It is The Royal Gazette’s policy not to allow comments on stories regarding court cases.
