A man accused of an attempted gun murder was remanded in custody for another week yesterday after he applied to change his defence lawyer.Magistrates’ Court heard that Taaj Muhammad, 25, submitted an application to the Legal Aid Office to be represented by Charles Richardson instead of Simone Smith-Bean, who is off the island.Mr Richardson explained that the Legal Aid Office expected to reach a decision by the end of the yesterday.Mr Muhammad, from St George’s, was charged on July 23 with the attempted killing of Kenneth Wade and the use of a firearm in an indictable offence.He faced alternative charges that he shot Mr Wade “with intent to do him some grievous bodily harm” and that he used a firearm in an indictable offence — “the shooting with intent” of Mr Wade.The incident was alleged to have happened on June 13.Mr Muhammad was remanded in custody for two weeks after the July court appearance when his bail application was delayed because his lawyer was overseas.He did not enter a plea because the case must be heard in the Supreme Court.Mr Richardson said yesterday that he intended to make a bail application and requested a week to review the allegations against his client.Senior magistrate Juan Wolffe adjourned the case until August 13.• It is The Royal Gazette’s policy not to allow comments on stories regarding court cases.
