Man steals cordless drills from school

A man who broke into a school and stole some power tools has been ordered to attend Drug Treatment Court.Andrew Arorash, 50, pleaded guilty in Magistrates’ Court on Friday to trespass on the grounds of Mount Saint Agnes Academy in Hamilton and stealing three cordless drills and drill bits.He also pleaded guilty to a breach of the midnight to 5am curfew imposed as part of the Covid-19 lockdown.The court heard a custodian at the school suspected a break-in on July 7 when he noticed that one of the windows had been opened. He also saw that the drills and drill bits, which had a total value of $1,180, were missing and alerted the assistant principal.The school contacted the police and officers reviewed CCTV footage of the school grounds. They saw a man later identified as Andrew Arorash, from St George’s, climb the western gate of the school at about 4.39am and wander around the premises before he left with the tools.Arorash was arrested and later admitted the theft.Senior magistrate Juan Wolffe released Arorash on $2,000 bail on condition he stayed away from drugs and alcohol.• It is The Royal Gazette’s policy not to allow comments on stories regarding court cases.
