Delray Rawlins will be looking to continue his fine bowling form of late when he and his Sydney Cricket Club team-mates come up against Bankstown in the New South Wales Premier League at Drummoyne Oval today.

The Bermudian all-rounder made an impact with his slow left-arm bowling last weekend, claiming one for 50 from 16 overs on day one of the Town versus Gown match against Sydney University and three for 21 in a Twenty20 contest against Mosman in the Poidevin-Gray Shield.

The impressive performances followed on the heels of last month’s spin-bowling camp with England Lions in Queensland, Australia where Rawlins got the chance to work with Stuart MacGill, the former Australia leg spinner, who claimed 208 wickets in 44 Test appearances.

“I’m bowling really well at the moment,” Rawlins told The Royal Gazette. “It feels like the work I’m doing with MacGill is paying off, which means I have just to keep working hard and improving even more.” The 20-year-old also worked with Peter Such, the England and Wales Cricket Board spin-bowling coach, Surrey’s Amar Virdi and Somerset’s Jack Leach and Dom Bess during the weeklong spin-bowling camp.

Rawlins has been playing in the New South Wales Premier League and training with the New South Wales State squad as part of the Overseas Placements section of the ECB’s International Pathways scheme.

He is one of eight players awarded an Overseas Placement by the ECB.

The ECB’s Overseas Placements programme is designed to give talented young cricketers the chance to develop their independence on and off the field and expose them to competitive cricket and good coaching to enhance their skills and knowledge.

Rawlins made four appearances for Sussex in the Specsavers County Championship Second Division last season, making his first-class debut against Kent on the opening day of the campaign. He also helped Sussex win the Second XI Twenty20 tournament.
