Coefield Robinson struck a half-century while Nelson Bascome and Paul Carr bagged eight wickets between them to guide Flatts to a 51-run victory over Somerset Bridge in a low-scoring Open League affair at White Hill Field yesterday.

The visiting side elected to bat after winning the toss and found themselves in trouble at 23 for four.

Top order batsman Robinson provided stability at one end on the way to a match high knock of 71, that included seven fours and a six, but could not a find a partner able to stick around long enough to build a meaningful partnership as wickets continued to fall at regular intervals around him.

Flatts were dismissed for 132 with middle-order batsman Carr, who scored 18, and tail-ender Cameron Smith, who chipped in with 12, the remaining batsmen in double figures.

Cory Burgess led Somerset Bridge with three wickets, while new-ball partner Torleair Caines and third change bowler Jamie Raynor claimed two wickets each.

Set a target well within reach, Bridge’s reply got off to a horrendous start as new ball pair Bascome and Carr sliced through the top and middle order with consummate ease.

The home side were skittled for 81 with early order bat Hewvonnie Brown (21), middle order bat Donnie Charles (10) and tail-ender Caines (20 not out) the only Bridge batsmen offering any resistance.

Bascome was the pick of the Flatts bowling attack with five wickets while Carr claimed three.
