Rawlins named in Sussex squad

Sussex all-rounder Delray Rawlins

Delray Rawlins has been included in Sussex Sharks’ 13-man squad against Hampshire in the Vitality Blast at the Ageas Bowl today.

Jason Gillespie, the Sussex coach, has made one change to the squad that travelled to Chelmsford and Cardiff for their wins against Essex and Hampshire last week.

Chris Jordan, who has returned from England duty, has replaces George Garton. Tymal Mills and Stiaan van Zyl are unavailable because of injury.

Sussex are also in action tomorrow against Surrey at the 1st Central County Ground in the Vitality Blast Twenty20 competition.

“We’ve had two tough away fixtures against top opposition and Hampshire will be no different,” Gillespie told the club’s website. “They’ll be looking to bounce back from their defeat against Glamorgan and have a number of outstanding T20 players, so we will have to be wary. We’ve prepared well and are learning from every game and as an added bonus we have CJ back in the squad after his time with England.”

After two wins from two, Sussex are top of the South Group, ahead of Kent by virtue of a superior net run rate.

Kamau Leverock’s team, Vancouver Knights, have qualified for the play-offs of the Global T20 Canada tournament and will play the West Indies B team in tomorrow.

Leverock has made just one appearance for the Knights who top the table with nine points from six matches after claiming their fourth win against Toronto Nationals on Tuesday by eight wickets.

Their match with Edmonton Royals on July 6 was called off because of a wet outfield.

The Knights are captained by Chris Gayle of the West Indies while Darren Sammy, another West Indian, is captain of the Nationals. Bermudian umpire, Roger Dill, has been officiating in the matches.

The winner of tomorrow’s match will advance to the play-off final, while the losers will meet the winners of Friday’s third and fourth-place match. The final will take place on Sunday at the Maple Leaf Cricket Club in Ontario.
