Trott stars with ball for Bay

Bailey’s Bay comfortably defended their modest total of 157 against Western Stars as Keiron Trott was outstanding with the ball, taking seven wickets for just nine runs at Sea Breeze Oval yesterday.

Stars, who were dethroned as champions in the Central Counties the day before by Tuff Dogs of the Evening League, did well to restrict Bailey’s Bay to 157 in 48.4 overs.

However, their batsmen had no answer to Trott who was outstanding in his eighth over spell as Stars were dismissed in just 22 overs.

Trott, who claimed five for 12 in a win over Southampton Rangers in the Open League two weeks ago, was again outstanding with his seam bowling after coming on as first change.

In the end Bay hardly missed seam pair Kyle Hodsoll and Zeko Burgess while captain Rodney Trott wasn’t required to provide his spin as Bay used only four bowlers.

College student Zenawi Bowen chipped in with three for 31 off six overs as only three Stars batsmen reached double figures. Rohan Davis and captain Seth Campbell were joint high scorers with 12 apiece while Dante Wellman scored 11.

Only three Bay batsmen reached double figures, with captain Trott’s knock of 63 as opener helping them to reach their total after being comfortably placed at 130 for five.

PJ Thomas halted Bay’s push for a big total with his four for 24 in seven overs after being the sixth bowler used by Stars.

Seth Campbell and Wellman both claimed two for 26 after Stars won the toss and sent Bay in. Bay were in early trouble at 52 for two before a stand of 78 for the fifth wicket between Trott and Coleridge Durham (21) put 130 on the board before Trott departed.
