Four local umpires have been selected to officiate in regional tournaments this summer.

Steven Douglas and Oscar Andrade have been invited to stand in the Cricket West Indies Regional Women’s tournament which starts today in Jamaica and runs until June 24, while Emmerson Carrington and Melvin Best have been chosen for matches in Florida in the Caribbean Professional League from August 13 to 23.

Lloyd Smith, president of the Bermuda Cricket Board, congratulated the four Bermuda Cricket Umpires Association members on their appointments.

“I am very pleased that Bermudian officials have captured four excellent opportunities to further their experiences and enjoy officiating at the next level,” Smith said yesterday.

“We consistently work hard to create these openings for our umpires and it is heartening to note that our umpires are held in such high regard throughout the region. I wish all four umpires the best for these competitions and look forward to them furthering our excellent reputation worldwide.

“I know that they will all be looking to utilise any learnings from this when they return home and I trust that this will additionally inspire others to follow in their footsteps.”

• Chris Douglas and Allan Douglas have been confirmed as the two guest players for Devonshire Rec for today’s Central Counties second round clash with holders Tuff Dogs at the Rec.

The challengers will finalise their final eleven before the match which starts at 11am. Jordan DeSilva and Derrick Brangman will be the two guest players for Tuff Dogs while veteran Arnold Manders is also included.

• Shaquille Bean, of Willow Cuts, has been handed a two-match ban by the Bermuda Cricket Board. He will be eligible to play again next Sunday.
