On the road: Delray Rawlins and Sussex Sharks are away to Surrey in a T20 match today

Delray Rawlins and his Sussex Sharks team-mates will look to get back to winning ways when they travel to the Kia Oval today to face Surrey in the Vitality Blast Twenty20 today.

The Sharks suffered their third defeat loss in the competition after losing by three-wickets in their previous outing at home against South Group leaders Somerset at the 1st Central County Ground last weekend.

However, Rawlins and his team-mates have been at their best on the road, winning four of five matches and only dropping points as a result of an abandonment away to Kent.

“Our away record should give us loads of confidence going into tomorrow night,” Rawlins told The Royal Gazette yesterday.

“It’s important we keep backing our skills and each other and I have no doubts we can come out on the right side.”

The sixth-placed Sharks, the 2009 English Twenty20 champions, are four points behind Somerset but have a game in hand over them and second-placed Kent.

The top four teams from the group will advance to the knockout stage of the competition.

Rawlins made his debut in the competition a week ago at Lord’s where he belted 49 from 35 ball to help guide the Sharks to a 12-run win over Middlesex.

“Playing at Lord’s is a feeling that you can’t really describe,” Rawlins said. “It was a bit surreal really.

“I was just pleased to get a chance and really happy to have done well for myself and for the lads.”
