Cleveland to face Bay in junior final

A new Junior Eastern Counties champion will be crowned when Cleveland County face Bailey’s Bay in the final at Lord’s next Saturday.

St David’s, the defending champions, failed to win any of their three round-robin matches after losing to Bay by nine wickets at Sea Breeze Oval last weekend.

St David’s, playing with ten men, posted 93 runs with ten-year-old Sa’Qui Robinson leading the way with 42. Bay lost just one wicket in reaching their target in 17 overs. The biggest contribution was the 35 extras St David’s gave up.

In the other match Cleveland beat Flatts by eight runs at Lord’s. Cleveland scored 106 in 23.2 overs, with 46 extras, including 37 wides, accounting for almost half their runs. Dominic Sabir was their only batsman in double figures with 42.

Tyler Hurdle led the Flatts bowling with four wickets for nine runs while Jamar Stovell took two wickets.

Stovell was the top batsman with 26 runs as Flatts fell just short in their reply of 98 from 29.2 overs. Opener Logan Jones was the other batsman in double figures with 14 while Cleveland gave up 37 extras, including 22 wides. Shane Robinson and Keith Whorms led the Cleveland bowling with three wickets apiece.
