St David’s made it three wins from three to remain in the driver’s seat in the One Premier Division Twenty20 after a 20-run victory over Bailey’s Bay at Lord’s yesterday.

It proved to be a good toss to win for St David’s who posted a challenging 155 for seven in their 20 overs and then restricted Bailey’s Bay to 135 for five.

Rodney Trott, the Bay captain, batted throughout to finish with 74 not out off 78 balls in a losing cause.

St David’s got their runs from their top three batsmen, with Allan Douglas leading the way with 57 from 31 balls, hitting two fours and five sixes before he was caught on the mid-wicket boundary by Terryn Fray in the sixteenth over at 135 for two.

Wickets then fell regularly with Ankoma Cannonier departing four balls later when he was run out by Stephen Outerbridge’s direct hit at the batsman’s end.

Cannonier, who opened with captain Chris Douglas, scored 36 off 38 balls, after featuring in an opening stand of 55 off just 7.5 overs.

Douglas was caught behind for 29 before Allan Douglas and Cannonier put on a further 80 for the second wicket. Douglas brought up the 100 after an expensive over from Stephen Outerbridge, which yielded 22 runs as Douglas smashed two fours and two sixes.

However, the Bay bowlers slowed up the scoring after that by removing Douglas and then taking five wickets in the final four overs.

Rodney Trott was the top bowler for Bay with three for 14 off four overs after sharing the new ball with Kyle Hodsoll, but taking all his wickets in his second spell.

Trott also threatened to lead Bay to victory with a solid innings at the top of the order, but the overs ran out in the run chase, leaving them 20 runs short.

Trott, who put on 26 with Coolidge Durham for the first wicket, kept Bay on course when he added 51 for the second wicket with Terryn Fray. Bay were falling behind on the run rate with 77 on the board after 11.5 overs when Fray was trapped lbw for 12 by Brian Hall.

Trott and Outerbridge kept the runs coming as the 100 came up in the fifteenth over. Wickets were in hand but 53 runs were required for victory in the final five overs.

That was when captain Chris Douglas introduced seam bowler Justin Pitcher into the attack and he removed Outerbridge leg before and Kyle Hodsoll in successive balls in his first over to peg Bay back at 103 for four.

Bay never recovered after that, with Jordan Smith departing on 125 for five in the nineteenth over, with Bay needing 31 runs to pull off victory.

Pitcher finished with three for 20 off three overs.

St David’s, the only unbeaten team, can wrap up the league with victories against Western Stars and St George’s in their final two matches

• Regino Smith scored 97 from 53 balls as Flatts beat Devonshire Recreation Club by 23 runs in the opening First Division T20 match at Lord’s.

Smith, who opened the batting, hit six fours and seven sixes as Flatts posted 72 for five in their 20 overs and then restricted Rec to 149 for seven.

Smith was bowled by Dheeraj Singh in the eighteenth over at 150 for five after putting on 83 with Christof Van Tonder for the fourth wicket before Van Tonder departed for 27 when the score was 145.

Smith was out five runs later. Paul Carr added 20 as Lavar Talbot claimed two for 18 and Singh two for 23.

In reply, Freeman Lema was the top scorer for his team with 32 while Toriano Henry finished with 22 not out. Smith claimed two for 34 and Shane Robinson two for 27 as Flatts protected their total.
