Bermuda Under-19s slumped to their second successive defeat of the ICC Americas Region qualifiers after losing by nine wickets to the United States in Ontario, Canada, today.

Arnold Manders’s side, who lost to Canada by nine wickets in their opener on Monday, were bowled out for 71 runs off 30 overs after being put into bat at the Maple Leaf North-West Ground in King City.

Opener Sharye Paynter was the only Bermuda batsman to reach double figures, scoring a run-a-ball 21. Extras were the next highest score with 19.

Leg spinner Shashank Vittaladevaram was the pick of the US bowlers, claiming three wickets for 13 runs off eight overs.

It took the US just 8.1 overs to chase down Bermuda’s total, losing just one wicket, Vatsal Vaghela, who was bowled by seam bowler Nirobi Smith-Mills for five.

Saiteja Mukkamalla top scored with 32 not out off 31 balls, while Majjid Subair hit 26 not out off 16 balls.

Also yesterday, Canada continued their perfect start by beating Argentina by seven wickets. Argentina were all out for 33 off 21 overs, with Raqib Shamsudeen taking five wickets for three runs. Canada reached their opponent’s total for the loss of three wickets off just four overs.

Bermuda will be hoping for their first win of the competition when they face Cayman tomorrow before facing Argentina in their final qualifier on Thursday. Cayman lost to the US by ten wickets on Monday,

The top team in the group, which also includes Cayman Islands, will advance to Under-19 World Cup in South Africa next January and February.

Bermuda, captained by Rodney Trott, competed at the Under-19 World Cup in Malaysia in 2008.
