Janeiro Tucker, the former Bermuda captain, is set to resume his international career when Bermuda play in the ICC T20 World Cup qualifiers in Dubai, United Arab Emirates next month.

Tucker, still active as a player in a player-coach role at Southampton Rangers this season where he guided the team to 50 overs and T20 titles, has been named in a 17-man squad submitted to the Bermuda Cricket Board by national team coach Herbie Bascome. Tucker, who is primarily travelling with the team as one of the assistant coaches, has had his name put forward as a player as well.

The Southampton Rangers veteran all-rounder guided Bermuda to World Cup qualification in the 50 overs game 14 years ago in Ireland where he took over as captain from Clay Smith who picked up an injury during the tournament. Tucker was a member of the Bermuda team that competed in the World Cup in 2007.

The T20 World Cup qualifiers will take place from October 18 to November 2, with Bermuda placed in group a along with Scotland, the Netherlands, Papua New Guinea, Namibia, Singapore and Kenya, while group B will comprise UAE, Ireland, Oman, Hong Kong, Canada, Jersey and Nigeria.

The top team from each group will advance to the semi-finals and securing direct qualification to the T20 World Cup 2020 in Australia. Three more teams from each group will be involved in qualification play-offs to determine the remaining four qualifiers.

The six qualifying teams will join the top ten teams in the ICC T20 rankings as of December 31, 2018. Those countries are Afghanistan, Australia, Bangladesh, England, India, New Zealand, Pakistan, South Africa, Sri Lanka and the West Indies.

The knockout stage of the T20 qualifiers will be played primarily at the Dubai International Stadium with the play-offs scheduled for October 29 and 30. The semi-finals will take place on November 1 and the final on November 2.

Bermuda will play Papua New Guinea in their first match on October 19, before playing Singapore, Kenya and Namibia in their next three matches on October 20, 21 and 23. Their final two group matches on October 24 and 26 against Scotland and Netherlands are set to be televised.

Bermuda will be captained by Dion Stovell, with Terryn Fray the vice-captain. The team also includes England-based professional Delray Rawlins, who plays for Sussex. There are three brothers in the Bermuda squad, Oronde, Onias and Okera Bascome, who are the sons of coach Bascome.

Okera Bascome and Sinclair Smith are the two wicketkeepers for Bermuda. Irving Romaine, who captained Bermuda at the 2007 World Cup in the West Indies, will be the team manager.
