Rawlins proves big hit for Tigers in Florida

Pivotal performance: Delray Rawlins guided Paramveer Tigers to a 24-run victory over Team Smashers at the US Open tournament in Fort Lauderdale, Florida at the weekend.

Delray Rawlins produced a ruthless fireworks display with the bat to guide the Paramveer Tigers to a 24-run victory over Team Smashers at the US Open tournament in Fort Lauderdale, Florida at the weekend.Facing the new ball at the top of the batting order, the Sussex and Bermuda all-rounder hammered 14 sixes and three fours in a whirlwind knock of 101 from 35 balls that all but secured his team’s win. Rawlins scored all but five runs in boundaries and dominated an opening partnership of 139 with Kjorn Ottley. The former PHC and St George’s Cup Match player got off the mark with a six over the deep cover boundary which set the tone for the remainder of his aggressive knock. He reached his fifty with the first of three successive sixes off of Raymond Ramrattan who went for 18 runs in the fourth over. The 22-year-old left-handed batsman kept his foot on the gas as he tore into the bowlers and brought up his hundred in equally dramatic fashion with a six over long-on off of Rizwan Mazhar.Rawlins’s aggressive innings finally came to a halt after Mazhar had him grabbed at leg slip off the very next ball. The Paramveer Tigers, who chose the bat, posted 160 for two in their allotted 10 overs.Fourth change bowler Jasdeep Singh claimed the remaining Paramveer Tigers wicket to fall.Team Smashers looked to be in with a shout at 84 for two after six overs in their reply. But they were pegged back by some tight bowling and ultimately finished at 136 for four, with opening bowler Elmore Hutchinson sending down maiden in the last over of the match after being brought back for a second spell.Max Waller led the Paramveer Tigers attack with two for 35 while first change Rawlins went wicketless for 32 runs in the two overs he bowled with his slow left-arm orthodox.
