Jones shines against Stars

Fine performance: Logan Jones

The inclusion of Logan Jones proved pivotal as Bermuda Under-19s bounced back to winning ways with a 51-run victory over Western Stars at Lord’s on Saturday. The under-19s got off to the worst possible start, losing opener Ori Wilson for nought. However, Zeri Tomlinson (18) and Jones (56) steadied the innings, taking the score past 50 before the former was caught off the bowling of Makai Young in the tenth over.Dominic Sabir (17) and Jarryd Richardson (14) contributed in helping their side surpass the 100 mark before both being dismissed with slightly less than three overs remaining. Jamar Stovel reignited the innings with a quickfire 20 from just seven balls, including two fours and a six before departing in the nineteenth over, before Jones was finally caught from another Young delivery with the penultimate ball.Young completed his three-wicket haul with the next and final ball of the match, dismissing Ajani Lee (0), with Jermel Proctor (3 not out) the last man standing as the under-19s posted a total of 140 for seven from their allotted overs.Jones also played a crucial role with the ball, claiming a three-wicket haul to help restrict Stars in reply.Having lost Jaiden Manders (0) and Delroy Ricketts (0) in the space of 1.5 overs and with only two runs on the scoreboard, Stars chase looked all but doomed almost immediately. Those struggles continued with the dismissals of captain Khiry Furbert (1) and Ryan Tyrell (13) with five overs already passed and just 25 runs scored.Curtis Jackson (1) followed soon and although Young (23) put up some resistance before being caught with the score on 72 for six, that was to prove as good as it got for Stars, who were bowled out for just 89 with just under five overs remaining. Cleveland County edged Warwick by one wicket in a tight contest that went down to the last over at Wellington Oval yesterday.Cleveland were well on course at 91 for five before they lost four wickets for 37 runs. They required five runs for victory with one wicket in hand and last pair Kioshi Trott (17) and Tybrae Robinson (0) proved equal to task as they carried their team across the line with three balls to spare.Jamar Stovel and Torleair Caines led the Warwick attack with three wickets apiece.Earlier, Warwick scored 132 for five after electing to bat with Akeem Ible (33), Stovel (31), Caines (23) and Stefan Dill (17), the captain, accounting for the bulk of their total. Dennis Musson Jr was the pick of the Cleveland bowling with two for 29 Flatts Victoria beat Devonshire Recreation Club by 74 runs at Somerset Cricket Club yesterday. Flatts scored 145 for six after electing to bat with Coefield Robinson top scoring with an unbeaten 41. Lethland Carr led the Devonshire bowling with three for 15. Devonshire were skittled out for 71 in reply.Logan Jones was the pick of the Flatts bowling with three for six.Bermuda Under-19sO Wilson lbw b Campbell0Z Tomlinson c Wellman b Makai Young 18L Jones c Ricketts b Young 56D Sabir c Furbert b Jackson 17*J Richardson c Ricketts b Manders 14J Stovel c Ricketts b Campbell 20J Proctor not out 3†A Lee c Ricketts b Young 0Extras (w 8, nb 1, b 3) 12Total (7 wkts; 20 overs) 140 Kentro Bean, Jahre Blakeney, Shane Robinson, Keiron Richardson, Eijaz Shakir did not batFall of Wickets: 0-1, 54-2, 81-3, 111-4, 133-5, 139-6, 140-7Bowling: S Campbell 4-1-21-2; PJ Thomas 2-0-16-0; Makai Young 4-0-19-3; D Wellman 3-0-31-0; J Manders 4-0-34-1; Curtis Jackson 3-0-16-1Western StarsR Tyrell c Richardson b Proctor 13J Manders b Stovel 0D Ricketts lbw b Blakeney 0*†K Furbert c Richardson b Sabir 1M Young st Lee b Jones 23C Jackson c Richardson b Sabir 1D W Wellman c Sabir b Richardson 13W Campball lbw b Jones 4D Ricketts c Stovel b Jones 5S C Campbell not out 7P J Thomas lbw b Richardson 1Extras (w 11, nb 8, b 1, lb 1) 21 Total (10 wkts; 15.1 overs) 89Fall of Wickets: 1-1, 2-2, 14-3, 25-4, 36-5, 72-6, 76-7, 76-8, 84-9, 89-10Bowling: J Stovel 2-0-3-1; J Blakeney 2-0-11-1; D Sabir 3-1-13-2; J Proctor 2-0-13-1; S Robinson 2-0-18-0; L Jones 3-0-21-3; J Richardson 1.1-0-8-2Wellington Oval (Warwick Workmen’s Club won toss): Cleveland County (10pts) bt Warwick by one wicketWarwick Workmen’s Club*S D Dill c Darrell b Dennis Musson Jr 17J S Stovel b Zeri Tomlinson 31D Sabir c Lema b Musson Jr 0A Ible c Darrell b McGowan 33K S Swan c Trott b Darrell T Caines not out 23C Burgess not out 0Extras (w 12, nb 6, b 1) 19 Total (5 wkts; 20 overs) 132 †A Lee, D Dowling, E Lowe-Anderson, JR Maroni did not batFall of Wicket: 1-19, 2-31, 3-72, 4-97, 5-121Bowling: Robinson 4-0-25-0; Musson Jr 4-1-29-2; Singh 3-0-26-0; Tomlinson 4-1-20-1; Darrell 4-0-20-1; McGowan 1-0-11-1Cleveland County*Q Darrell c & b Torleair Caines 0K S Singh c Sabir b Maroni 3Z Tomlinson c Lee b Caines 5S Bremar Jr b Stovel 38J Darrell run out 25M McGowan b Stovel 26† F A Lema c Burgess b Dill 8D Musson Jr b Caines 4K Trott not out 17I Creighton c Ible b Stovel 1T Robinson not out 0Extras (w 3, nb 1, lb 2) 6 Total (9 wkts; 19.3 overs) 133Fall of Wicket: 1-0, 2-9, 3-9, 4-66, 5-91, 6-104, 7-113, 8-121, 9-128Bowling: Caines 4-0-17-3; Maroni 4-0-25-1; Sabir 4-0-35-0; Dill 4-0-40-1; Stovel 2.3-0-14-3Somerset Cricket Club (Flatts won toss): Flatts (10pts) bt Devonshire Recreation Club by 73 runsFlatts VictoriaR Baker retired out 39R C A E Smith b Bevin Carr 29L Jones c Ball b Levon 4*D Carey c & b Carr 19C Robinson not out 41†K Franks b Johnson 4P Carr Harvey c Ball b Carr 1S Robinson not out 4Extras (w 2, lb 2) 4 Total (5 wkts; 20 overs) 145 A Robinson, C Smith, K Jones did not batFall of Wicket: 1-35, 2-48, 3-77, 4-139, 5-111 Bowling: Brangman 2-0-12-0; Levon 4-0-34-1; Carr 5-0-18-3; Simmons 2-0-11-0; Talbot 3-0-28-0; Ball 3-0-35-0; Johnson 1-0-5-1Devonshire Recreation ClubC Dailey lbw b Robinson 8D A Z Johnson c Franks b Robinson 0M Levon c Robinson b Carr Harvey 10D Ball b Smith 3*L B Talbot c Bascome b Jones 18J Fray c Franks b Bascome 3C Brown lbw b Jones 0K S D Simmons c Jones b Bascome 0† Sinamon c Franks b Jones 3B Carr run out 0D C Brangman not out 0Extras (w 20, nb 4, lb 3) 27 Total (10 wkts; 14.1 overs) 72Fall of Wicket: 1-9, 2-19, 3-35, 4-44, 5-67, 6-68, 7-68, 8-71, 9-71Bowling: Robinson 2-0-16-2; Smith 4-0-20-1; Carr-Harvey 2-0-8-1; Carey 1-0-11-0; Jones 3-1-6-3; Bascome 2.1-0-8-2
