Onias Bascome, the St George’s captain, hopes his team’s inspiring win over Willow Cuts in their previous outing in the Premier Division Twenty20 was the start of better things to come.St George’s beat Cuts by 15 runs at Wellington Oval last weekend to avenge an earlier loss to their rivals and put an end to a losing streak stretching back to July 26.All-rounder Bascome attributes his team’s second win of the season to the hard work that he and his team-mates have been putting in to try and turn their flagging fortunes around.“We have been working hard lately, trying to train a bit harder for the second half of the season,” he said. “After going 1-4 the first half of the season we had to come back stronger and it was a good game to start out with.“Even though we lost four games in the first half of the season, in all of those games we competed. We posted good scores but couldn’t defend them or got in the game and couldn’t get over the line, so the last game showed us that we are capable of getting a win.”With a bit of confidence restored, St George’s are now gunning for a clean sweep over St David’s when the two sides lock horns in an intriguing east end derby at Lord’s tomorrow.St George’s won the first encounter at Lords on July 19 by 21-runs thanks to a fine all round display from senior player Mishael Paynter, who scored a team high 35 and claimed two wickets.Wendell Smith’s team is expected to make at least one change as promising player Giovanni Saltus has returned to school overseas.While St George’s are coming in with momentum the same cannot be said for St David’s whose league title hopes took a hit via a humbling eight-wicket defeat against rejuvenated Somerset in their previous outing.The loss saw Ricky Brangman’s team lose precious ground to his former team, Southampton Rangers, who now hold a ten-point advantage over St David’s at the top of the standings with four rounds remaining in the championship.St David’s are also expected to make at least one change with wicketkeeper Ricardo Brangman having served a two-game suspension after being found guilty of breaching the Bermuda Cricket Board’s Code of Conduct during his team’s August 2 match against Bailey’s Bay at Somerset Cricket Club.Tomorrow’s Premier T20 affair between St George’s and St David’s will be preceded by the First Division T20 encounter pitting Warwick Workmens Club against leaders Flatts Victoria.Meanwhile, league action kicks off today with third-placed Somerset hosting fourth place Bailey’s Bay in the Premier Division Twenty20 at Somerset Cricket Club that will be preceded by the First Division clash between Somerset Bridge and the Bermuda Under-19 national squad.Leaders Southampton Rangers take on Willow Cuts while Western Stars face Cleveland at White Hill Field in tomorrow’s remaining Premier Division and First Division matches respectively. Devonshire Recreation Club have a bye this weekend in the First Division.All First Division matches begin at 11am while Premier Division games start at 3pm.
