A suspect arrested in connection with the murder of Jahkoby Smith has been bailed, police say.

He was released “with strict reporting conditions” as officers continue to investigate the case as a “matter of priority”, the Bermuda Police Service said in a release this afternoon.

Mr Smith, 21, was fatally stabbed during an altercation at the West End Sailboat Club on Saturday evening. A second person was also stabbed.

The club was hosting an event following a funeral for 20-year-old Jahcari Francis who was fatally shot at a house in Devonshire on July 19.

At a press conference earlier this week, Acting Superintendent Nicholas Pedro said that the stabbing was the result of “antisocial behaviour” that was “fuelled by alcohol and or other items, possibly including drugs”.

Police renewed their call for witnesses to come forward in today’s release.

“We are aware that some persons will possess information, or may have seen the murder of Jahkoby Smith, and the stabbing or the other young man with him,” police said.

“The police rely on the community to help them solve crime, and this matter is no different. We need person who can help to come forward and talk to the detectives investigating this senseless killing.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact police on 247-1739 or Crime Stoppers on 295-0011.
