A former alderman accused of attempted murder was yesterday released on $50,000 bail.

Carlton Simmons, 40, was on Monday remanded in custody after being charged with the attempted murder of Jahkeil Samuels in Ambiance Lounge, on Angle Street, Hamilton, on August 12.

But yesterday Mr Tokunbo released Mr Simmons on bail with two sureties of $25,000 and on condition that he reports regularly to police.

Mr Simmons is not required to enter a plea at this stage as the case must be heard in Supreme Court.

The case is expected to be heard next month.
