Lovell tried to flee from police

A man was fined $500 after he admitted trying to avoid arrest.

Marco Lovell, 39, from Southampton, pleaded guilty to wilfully obstructing an on-duty police officer.

Magistrates’ Court heard that police responded to a report of a damage-only collision in St George’s on April 28.

Lovell told police he had been involved in a crash with a tourist riding a rental motorcycle. A check revealed Lovell did not have a driver’s licence and had $1,300 worth of outstanding warrants.

The court heard Lovell tried to push past police after they told him about the warrants.

He told the officers: “I’m not going anywhere.”

Lovell had to be forced to the ground and handcuffed as he continued to struggle.

Magistrate Khamisi Tokunbo fined Lovell $500.
