Two men were banned from the roads for 18 months and fined yesterday after they admitted drink-driving offences.

Allan Somner, 51, pleaded guilty to driving while over the legal blood-alcohol limit on Christmas Eve.

Magistrates’ Court heard that officers spoke to Somner at about 10.30pm as they investigated a two-car collision on Bishop Spencer Road in Pembroke. Somner told officers he was the driver of one of the cars and that he had two drinks earlier in the evening.

He was arrested and taken to Hamilton Police Station, where a breath test showed he had 177 milligrams of alcohol in 100 millilitres of blood — more than double the legal limit of 80 milligrams.

Jonathan Outerbridge, from St George’s, also admitted a charge of driving while over the legal limit.

The court heard police were travelling on Pembroke’s Cavendish Road when they saw a car parked in a bus lay-by with the driver’s door open.

The officers noticed Outerbridge was lying down in the drivers seat and there was vomit on the pavement near the car.

Outerbridge agreed to provide a breath sample, which revealed 159 milligrams of alcohol in 100 millilitres of blood.

The incident happened on December 8. Magistrate Tyrone Chin also fined both men $800.
