Woman arrested for stabbing

A teenage woman was yesterday arrested in connection with an early morning stabbing incident at a beach bar.

Police said yesterday afternoon that the 19-year-old, believed to be from Paget, was being held in custody.

The arrest came after an 18-year-old woman, from Devonshire, was taken to hospital with multiple stab wounds after a fight broke out at the Rum Bum Beach Bar on Horseshoe Bay Beach in the early hours of Sunday morning.

The incident happened at about 12.30am near the public restrooms.

Police earlier said the injured teen was with friends at the bar when an argument broke out with another woman.

A police spokesman said: “Apparently, she then exited the establishment, which was in the process of closing, and stood near the bathrooms and outdoor showers with a group of people when she was stabbed multiple times.”

He added injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

The spokesman said that another teenager, an 18-year-old Devonshire man, suffered an arm injury at the same location, but that the injury was believed to have been caused by a fall on to rocks. He said: “The investigation continues and detectives encourage anyone who has video footage of the stabbing to come forward.

“Any information provided will be treated in the strictest of confidence.”

Anyone who can assist the inquiry should contact the Criminal Investigation Department on 247-1744 or the Crime Stoppers hotline at 800-8477
